Is disagreeing the topic of the day?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

That I can guarantee! :-) Please don't assume the staff sees everything either though. If there's a problem just drop a PM to one of the staff and they'll look into it for you.

And all of you can disagree with me. I will admit that I don't have the answers. I just live in an area that seems to watch hurricanes and tropical systems come by and occasionally vist us!

I also had been a member under a different name, lost the password and didn't have a chance to resign till recently, but I do notice a lot more "give-n-take" this year. I'm going to blame the early start to the season, everyone is a little tense and especially after last year more are on edge when they hear there's another one, so tempers are short.
Even up here, but I think the heat wave we just had fried a few people's brains out (mine included)

Its is just plain arrogance and lack of respect in my opinion. Because someone is not an "expert" on a certain topic does not give anyone the right to speak down or disrespect them. It has become a problem and I am glad the mods and admins are aware of it. Its all about respecting each other...something the world in general has abandoned in recent times. If you have a point make it, but don't disrespect someone who has a different opinion than your own.

Aw, as the Old Man (Paul Sr.) on American Chopper says: "Shut It!" 8-)

Really, there is a provision for reporting smart-achers (I might have just made the grade), so use it.

These preachy little "Play Nice Now" posts serve only to antagonize people and invite even more flame action. I don't consider myself to be that much of a pest, but these "parental" themed posts just push my buttons. I know it has to be extra-irritating to the real fire-bugs.

I say report 'em, don't lecture 'em. 8-) (grr) Man, I love 'Chopper!

Flaming isn't the issue. The issue is treating others with less knowledge with the same respect you treat professional met's on here. The VAST majority of people on this board are not only here to get information but to learn. What we all share regardless of our level of expertise is the love of tropical weather systems. The gate swings both ways. Knowledge gained but not taught is not knowledge at all, and, as the Chinese would say, "the first step in wisdom is realizing your not smart." The pro's on here do an excellent job of teaching those of us with less skill. The amateurs on here do an excellent job of asking questions so they can learn. The bond between pro and amateur needs to be mutual respect. When you've only been on this board a year and you start putting people down cause you don't like their opinion all you've done ensure you won't be read yourself. It's about mutual respect and understanding. Now if you think this is to parental you didn't have to read it in the first place.

I think this year is 1000 times better than last year.

The Mods have been doing a great job in locking repetetive and meaningless threads. I'm enjoying this year!

Hi everyone! As you can see I joined just recently, but I'll be the first to admit that I don't have enough knowledge or experience to argue with any of you. I am here to learn. I hope new members like me don't get lumped together with the opinionated posters.

It isn't difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff (for all you non-coastal types :) )
C'mon in and read, ask and learn (from someone who doesn't know a isobar from a air conditioned bar but enjoys being here and learning). There are many helpful, aware people here who are glad to share and explain.

The Mods work overtime at an often thankless job but without them we'd all be in trouble. Every year we have issues but sooner or later the S2K way of doing things wins out. The only question is will it happen the easy way or the hard way. ;-)

Sorry if I made it sound *easy* for the work the moderators do...re: easy to separate the wheat from the chaff; I meant from the the readers perspectives, those who are here for the *right* reasons.
I know it takes a LOT of work behind the scenes to control what is unpleasant to keep the board running well. Thank you all, once again! And no slight in any way intended, I admit I wouldn't want your job (I wouldn't be as thoughtful or patient!).

I didn't take your comment that way at all. Sorry if I made it sound like I did. You're absolutely right when you say it's easy to separate the chaff. It doesn't take long to figure out ;-)

I don't envy the mods jobs here. I'm a mod on several other boards and an admin and all I can say is kudos to them!

Ok im gonna be direct and to the point. We all have our little moods and quirks and since we ARE a family here lets try to accept each others shortcomings. Some of us here are more knowlegable about weather than others. Our forecasters are the best and if they werent interested in helping ppl they wouldnt be here. If they seem a bit impatient at times its because they are fielding umpteen million questions; trust me they dont mean to belittle or insult. Of course tensions can run EXTREMELY high during an active period. Put yourself in the place of someone in the path of a hurricane and you will understand why. 'Nuff said

I can probably be lumped into the "bad" group occasionally.
I have followed Hurricanes all my life and have a bit of sarcasm in me that can be taken the wrong way (and apparently HAS).
I got called out by a Moderator for using the term "-removed-" and was taken aback for the chastising until I re-read my post and it was a bit surly although not meant to be hurtful in any way.
So, I am more cognizant of what I type since by not hearing my tone of voice or inflection; my words can be more harsh or sarcastic then meant to be. My "humor" may not come across and be mistaken for being "nasty".
I guess the moral is to be mindful of others feelings and understand that we are a "family" here at S2K and that all of us can learn form others. The Pros are incredible and the amateurs have a lot to offer even if we do not agree with each other much of the time.
It is a "forum" and a chance to learn and interact with others who share a keen interest in a FASCINATING hobby, the following of Mother Nature and its fury.
I never knew that such a place existed until last September and this is an incredible resource and place to enjoy the drama and excitement with others who feel like me!!
