SAL Imagery Via TRMM Satellite

#1 Postby Derek Ortt » Thu Jul 28, 2005 12:42 pm

I have started these images again this season, using the TRMM satellite, as it has better coverage than does the SSM/I

I will likely make everything in a loop format in a couple of days, once we get some more new imagery

Hi Derek, I have a question about the SAL in relation to 92L. Where is it exactly in proximity to this system and is it aiding or hurting the storm's development? Thanks.

well...

from those TRMM images, from yesterday, I couldn't update in the morning as I normally will as I am figuring out how to automate the process using CRON, there was SAL warpping right into the MLC yesterday afternoon

Is this SAL even normal for this time of year or is it just being a bit stubborn this year?

its been quite a bit less than normal this year, which is why we went through that stretch where every single wave developed.

Tomorrow morning, the data will be updated for today

a quick update,

7/28 imagery is now online

am having trouble making a usable .gif loop. I generated one, but it was almost 5mb for just 4 images, not usable at all. will keep working on that

A few questions here.
How accurate and reliable are these graphics?
Does anyone else create a graphic for SAL?
Do they do any touch up with this or crosschecking the results?

it comes directly from the TMI satellite data that I receive from Remote Sensing Systems. I have used their microwave remote sensing data for the last 3 years for my research. The margin of error from these graphics would be identical to the margin of error in the REMSS data, which I believe is very small

Excellent.. I like very small margines of error! Thanks for the quick response Derek. 8-)
