hey guys and gals
we are getting that lightning display too.
in fact, right now we are getting a heavy downpour..
it is also thundering and lightning very hard. I would say that one of those thunderstorms Luis mentioned is right over us now.
my plants are very happy
but I must say that overall , this tropical wave has been more of a non- event than anything for us here in St. Maarten.

So far, basically the same here (gentle rain starting up again). I just hope the same for the higher elevations of the big island...mudslides are bad:(

since about half hour ago, intense lightning and thunder. No wind. Palm trees are not moving. We may be the center.
Lightning coming into house. Intense. Thunder too.
Going offline now.

In general this event was not worse than what it was expected for us in the islands.Yes some scattered showers some of those heavy, some thunder and lighting and a few gusts that was it.Thankfully the wave did not develop in our doorsteps as feared yesterday. Now there will be a short lull in the atlantic east of the islands but believe me after mid to late august things will heat up again and by then we will have to watch those waves in the atlantic very closely.

Gook luck and stay safe to all the island members the rest of this season and hopefully we can dodge those CV systems.

Conditions this morning in San Juan :

Partly Cloudy skies with a light sun comming out of the clouds and no rain. The temp at 7:00 AM was 81*F.

After all the lightening and thunder last night we finally got the heavy rain and I slept that good *rain* sleep until waking up this morning to more heavy rain. But that has stopped now.
On Culebra, it is a very cool 82 (that is very cool lately), washed out sky, a very small breeze and the sun working on the clouds. The gardens look REALLY happy, I swear my avocado trees are three inches taller than yesterday.

Good morning neighbors!! Sun is shining between the clouds, air is sweet, and the howling wind must have stopped during my gloriously deep sleep last night!

Yes Luis, glad this wasn't worse and hope no one in PR had any damaging flooding or slides! I've sure enjoyed hearing opinion and conditions of my neighbors here in the NE Caribbean, and would venture so far as to suggest a thread like this continue, regardless of the weather.

Have a wonderful day my friends!! :sun:

Good morning
well, we survived that intense thunderstorm last night.
It lasted a little over an hour and in that time we had 2.5 inches of rain.
That flooded all our roads and gave us a few minor rock slides.
The lightening was as intense as I have ever seen.
My 80 pound German Shepherd cowered by my side while it was going on.
this morning is sunny and birght and looks like it will be a typical wonderful Caribbean day!

I think it is better to make threads like this one when potential threats may loom for the Eastern Caribbean Islands than post about weather everyday of the year.Hey bvigal we have stormcarib for that. :) But thanks anyway for the suggestion.

I agree Luis (stormcarib does cover us well) - thanks for the timely thread here, it was pretty cool going through it *together* - a practice run. And let's hope we don't have to do it too many times again this season!

Yes it was very helpful for all of us to post our observations.Yes it was only a practice and hopefully I wont create threads for observations about threats of hurricanes or storms.

It was and is a great thread, Luis. Thanks for thinking of it. I hope we don't have to do it too often.
by the way, we are currently having an incredible downpour here. very heavy rain.. no thunder and lightning though, thankfully.

I think we are getting more rain now than all day yesterday! It's pouring like mad, the streets are running deep in water...after a basically calm and hot day.

it's still raining but the heavy downpour stopped.
but we got about 5 inches in a little over an hour
wow!
not as much thunder and lightning as last night but much more rain
and it's still coming down steadily.
I'll keep post more rainfall amounts later as it will be adding up
again, I am sure.
I hope PR and Culebra aren't getting it as bad as we are right now
oops...gotta go. my husband is calling me..our whole downstairs is flooded out!
back later

Wow for being only one hour that is a lot.As I see this it is a little tail comming from 92L that goes down. Now let's see what wave 93L brings to the NE caribbean although it looks like most of it will pass south of us.
