Check out the pic at Weatherunderground now, its getting warm in the Gulf. It will be interesting to see if the warm waters get to greater depths this year than years past.

Those sure are warm temps.

I know it probably doesn't mean much because it is only the local surf temperature. But I was out surfing earlier this week in Melbourne beach. The surf temperature was about as warm as I can ever remember it. Uncomfortable instead of refreshing.

I am guessing 83-85 and it usually runs about 79-81 this time of year along the beaches. Obviously the local surf temps don't mean a whole lot for tropical development. The classic example was all the cold water upwelling along the coast of East Central Florida during the summer of 2003. It was still a busy season.

But still I thought it was worth noting.

*cough cough*

I use them too, particularly for getting the advisory early, but for all your weather needs? Come on now, that's what storm2k is for! :)

Jeez... So many things need protection these days...

I'll giggle at that myself.

Anyway, that's the warmest i've ever seen the GOM. And I glance at WUnderground all the time. And the interesting thing... Those extremely warm water temps in the Northern Gulf appeared practically overnight. [Last night.]

The Gulf is mixed right now. Some of it is above normal, normal, and below normal. Here are a couple of maps showing the anomalies. You can clearly see where Emily passed in the SW Gulf.

I have gone to wunderground but you do have to be careful. Make sure you are running your virus protection along with a pop up stopper. If my pop up stopper is turn off I get a ton of pop ups. Not good!

As for the temps...hot.

Thats because you haven't subscribed. 5 dollars isn't much to avoid popups. BTW they have NO spyware.

I remember wunderground when it was like sprl.umich.something another- way back in the mid 1990s. I would telnet in or gopher, or some such thing. Who knows. It wsa back when the Internet was for nerds.

Whatever.

Take that 5$ and multiply it by every site in your favorites/bookmarks list (that's not a retail site like Amazon, E-bay, etc.). I'm guessing that's going to be a very big number. The pay-for-play Internet will NOT work.. because who could afford it?

And pop-ups? Browsers will continue to evolve. If people actually wanted that seizure-inducing junk there would not be 54793 ad-blocking plugins available for download at any given moment....

I use this link to get the same information that you get from the wunderground, and I have no problems with popups.http://cirrus.sprl.umich.edu/wxnet/
