08L data has been added to the S2K worldwide tropics page... http://tropicalupdates.nhcwx.com
Of course, the links will be pretty useless until the advisories come out. I'll get a tracking map loaded this evening.
With some recon flights scheduled, also check out http://tropicalupdates.nhcwx.com/recon.htm

If it becomes a named storm it will be 8, but it is hardly worthy of a name, but rules are rules.
1) I believe it has the possibility of becoming a strong tropical storm...and possibly a hurricane (and it's definitely a threat to Bermuda).
2) even if it only reaches 40-45 mph for peak intensity....please realize, both in 1933 and 1995 there were also named storms which failed to reach 60 mph.
Just my 0.02¢ worth...

Agreed, especially 1933 - 9 storms 45KTs or less.

well I for one am SICK of 70mph tropical storms! already we have had three! I hope TD8 either becomes a 40mph tropical storm or a 75mph hurricane or a 115mph major hurricane or a 160mph category 5 hurricane... and to remind people we have ALSO had TWO hurricanes come within 10 and 5mph of being declared category 5.
::end rant::

They won't issues a STDS since 08L isn't a threat to land for a little while.

No, it has no connotation of disrespect for islanders. It is used simply to refer to a storm, from the perspective of a person who lives in North America, that recuves out to sea without impacting mainland North America. It has absolutely nothing to do with reference to people living upon islands and, hence, is not disrespectful towards them. People who think otherwise are simply reading something into it that isn't there.
