I like those maps... potential minimum central pressure. That's a really cool way to look at it. Thanks for posting it. It looks like this year has a lot more potential, doesn't it?

Impressive, most impressive. Thanks a lot for posting those! That really should give everyone a good idea as to how warm the SST's really are and how bad things will get. I knew it was much warmer this year, but I didn't realize just how much.

Thats alot of Tchp I see there. Now wonder we almost had two cat5s. Even so I believe Emily for a short time was one. Things are going to go out of this world very soon. Heck I would not be surpized if we had 2 cat5s at once. In look how far up the coast that heat go's. The area around Florida could hold together a hurricane as powerful as Gilbert.

I would be packing my bags hurricane if I lived in Florida. I would also build my house out of something strong. No 200 mph winds would distory it.

Omg theres enough Tchp to hold a cat5 to the Cape or around 36 to 37 north.

New york could get hit by a cat3!!!

That looks pretty scary for people along the GoM ... see the black blobby areas from Texas to Fla ???

Maybe everyone near a coast needs to make sure their kits are complete.

Kinda makes me want to buy a few more flashlights and more batteries myself...

And a grill ;)

Here is the two options I would have if I lived down there.

1# Build house out of Cement with Iron reinforcement. Bullet proof windows 3 inches wide. Enough food to last a month. In sit on computer watching the storm in the house.

2# run!!!

After seein that, if there was a 3 or 4 heading to Texas and it had a possibility of going to a 5... I'd consider leaving too except I'm already 100+ miles from the coast!

Matt in 1969 Camille destroyed many "strong" or "hurricane proof" buildings, on many cases leaving only the foundation and in some cases not even that. Short of a waterproof concrete bunker I doubt anything could withstand Cat 5 winds without incuring significant damage.

Gee, thanks?

Actually it doesn't. And after going to Punta Gorda Monday, those folks are not pleased about the prospects for this season at all. They still have huge piles of debri from Charley everywhere.

Of course, most of the folks in Tampa have the "don't worry be happy and build some more on the water" attitude like they do here in coastal Sarasota County.

Sub 880mb? I don't think so. The record for the ATL is 888mb and records like that are hard to break by 8-10 mb. The record for EPAC is 900 mb.

Look at that area about 6-7,N, 42W. If that decent looking tropical wave has any hint of organization and hits that water, we could be dealing with another storm like Emily, but it would have to gain some latitude after that.
