The websites where this model is posted say the model is EXPERIMENTAL. http://moe.met.fsu.edu/mm5/ and http://moe.met.fsu.edu/tcgengifs/. My goodness, give it some slack. It is ONGOING RESEARCH that you are talking about here, not something that is completely ready for operation that will always suddenly be as good or better than the current operational global models. Show some RESPECT for the people attempting this EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH that can be difficult and tedious by not being so critical of it right away or laughing at it when it looks bad to you. I would bet that MOST, but not all, of you have NO idea what kind of hard work and intelligence it takes to make one of these models work. I don't care what anybody says; this is NOT a good thread whatsoever.

Sorry Dr. Hart.(a.k.a.dvdweatherwizard)
Just kidding... couldn't pass it up.

It's okay. I can understand that. I'm not Dr. Hart, nor am I one of his graduate students, although I am a grad. student in meteorology at FSU working for another professor. Perhaps my comments above do sound a bit harsh; I'm not sure. Regardless, I really wish people would stop and think before they go criticizing something they may or may not really understand, especially something that is experimental and not really a polished product, that's all.

I remember a couple of years ago, I tried one that just moved a storm in one straight direction depending on which box in the ocean it was in. Never did work, so I never really got to do the continental portion. I worked on that for a couple of weeks, too. It was only C++, though. Nothing fancy at all.
