Horses Prefer Car Wash To Cold Hose

POSTED: 12:33 p.m. EDT May 6, 2003

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- A car wash is for cars -- not horses. Horse owner Jess Yager found out the hard way.

An animal control officer in North Platte was ready to ticket Yager for bringing his four animals to a car wash. The officer said it was against the law.

Yager was let off with a warning as he took his animals home, after only two got the soapy treatment. No hot wax, though.

Yager said the horses love the car wash and he's taking them to it for years. He said the horses prefer the hot water of the car wash over the cold hose at home.

When my kids come home all dirty, I've threatened to put them on top of the car and go thru the car wash. Guess that's not a good idea.

Very unusual for horses to like hot water. Their body temps stay warm even in winter. Mine like cool water. Also when a horse is hot you are not supposed to let him drink water. This guy was a real idiot and has no business with the beautiful creatures.

You tell 'em Linaloo. You are our resident horse person.

BTW, did you make it to the vets? Or for that matter to town with the wagon, yet.

just an afterthought.....this is for you Linda.....Do you think there would be anything wrong with riding one into one of those do-it-yourself car washes? The water is cold, and they have this great tri-colored nice smelling soap that I bet would make those horses smile from ear to ear. Not to mention, High pressure wash for thiose hard to reach places. What do you think??
