Something good that I can find in all the bad. Because the system is so huge, it will have to struggle more to intensify than if it where a smaller cyclone. But, as always in life there is a "but," the system has a long way and lot of warm water to transverse. Thereafter, even it may intensify at a slower pace, it will be a major in a few days.

If it takes awhile to intensify then a less northerly track is likely.

Typhoons over the western pacific bomb all the time. In some of them are huge. Remember Typhoon Tips,Floyd? So yes these systems can be ever bit as strong.

Usually Cape Verde systems are referred to those forming from tropical waves and that develop before crossing 40 degrees West of longitude. Emily formed around 42, and I would like to call her a Cape Verde system. Unfortunately, she formed outside the ring of fire!!!! Well, she was on fire!!!

Yes, but if it intensifies at a slower pace, it will be more likely to go farther west and will be more likely to make landfall.

and as luck would have it, the intensity forecast is the most difficult part of a tropical cyclone forecast.
