Western Atlantic Tropical Summary - WATS UP August 5, 2005

<img src="http://www.diamondheadweather.com/wats20050805.jpg">

Tropical Storm Harvey is about to leave the picture as he heads across the
Atlantic. Harvey is only a threat to shipping lanes.

An upper level low just South of Puerto Rico is bringing a little moisture
up across the Antilles from South America. This will not form into a tropical cyclone.

The dry air and Saharan Dust continue to be the dominating force in most
of the Atlantic basin. I do not expect tropical cyclone formation in the next 2-3 days in this area.

That dry air sure is persisting. You would think anything that gets into that area would have to become fairly strong in order to survive. Any word on how long it is expected to last?

I initially thought it would last 2-3 weeks. Now I wonder if it won't go
4-6 weeks.
