The water vapor imagery does not see what is going on at the surface. So, anything that is indicated on the WV is mid level or upper level whatever it is.
An ULL also can be determined on satelitte by it's cloud types (cirrus at the upper levels, versus middle or low cloud types), and by surface observations (taken on land or at sea), and aviation and weather balloon observations.
what does this mean in terms of whether or not it can/will develop into anything of concern.
we all think of 'low pressure' as meaning potential storm system, does the fact that it is an ULL mean that the pressure drop and it's height (where it is in the atmosphere) mean that it is insufficent to reach the surface and/or cause cyclonic action? not enough downward pressure to cause a spin?
when i was a baby i was watching WTVT 13 Roy Leep write the temps and frontal boundaries on the board by hand. i love watching the whole thing and am pretty good at figuring out what things are going where, but i've never heard anyone really explain why some of these come to life and some don't.
can anyone put it in florida cracker terms?
thank ya!
