Here's a little-known fact

#1 Postby Andrew92 » Sun Aug 07, 2005 2:02 pm

Over the last full year, 365 days, these have been the numbers for tropical developments:

23/10/7

Yes, 23 tropical storms have developed since August 7, 2004. Alex had just become extratropical and Bonnie was not yet named. After Bonnie, 13 more developed in 2004, and 9 have developed in 2005.

I know this doesn't mean that those will be 2005's numbers, but I noticed that statistic today. The last 365 days in the Atlantic have been extremely active!

It has been pretty crazy. This must be the most active period in recorded history. Mid-to late Aug-Sept may likely bring an even bigger round of storms.

I know it is an alarming statistic, but do remember.....

Yes we are on a record pace, but that doesn't mean we'll still get to Alpha or Beta. I still found the statistic very interesting and thought it was worth discussing.

Don't think that this means you can no longer discuss this statistic....I would love to hear more opinions on the activity over the previous 365 days versus what may happen later this year.
