Which Models you like the most or you dont like any?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sun Aug 07, 2005 12:12 pm

I like NOGAPS and UKMET the most but I am not a big fan of models as I only use them as a guidance. But I think those 2 global models perform very well.

What about you preferences about the best models you like the most or you dont follow the models at all?

I'd say GFS, mainly for its long-term abilities. I know other models can as well, but I feel that GFS is most reliable long-term model out there. (I wonder what the average error at 16 days is?)

GFS is awesome, it really gets me on a rollercoaster ride when I watch the 16 day long range.

You need to have GUNA as a choice.

I don't really like any of them for forecasting. There is too large of a margin of error. I usually just listen to the NHC and storm 2k.

I like the "proactive" approach of the GFS, the long range stuff is hard to digest at times but still interesting to see the changes in each GFS run and how the other models handle the same weather system when the time frame becomes closer...

The GFS has been doing well over all this season, and it's recent performance with Irene has certainly made a believer out of me

I prefer the GFS and the GFDL. They all have done well and also poorly at times, but overall these two seem to do the best.

GUNA =

Gfdl
Ukmet
Nogaps
Avn (GFS)

Basically, it adds the 4 latitudes / longitudes from these 4 models together for each time interval and divides by 4 to get an average position between the 4 models.

And I don't have a favorite model. The model of choice changes with the type of storm, the general weather pattern, the location of the storm, and other factors.

Sorry, wxman. I edited my post before I saw that you had replied. (I remembered how great a "Search button" is.) Thanks for the reply. 8-)
