I think our next best candidate for formation is a STRONG tropical vortex/wave that is about to move off Africa in 2-3 days. The system is located near 15N 5W. It very well could be compared to a MCS that occurs over the United States during the summer months. It has a strong rotation with it and if conditions over water are favorable, these systems tend to spin up. There is one thing going against it and that is that it is far enough north that development, if any, will be slow.

A lot of waves this season have been coming off the coast at a fairly high latitude, which is definitely good news because they are the most likely to recurve away from the US. This is also an indicator that the ITCZ position is higher than normal, which creates higher activity than average over the Eastern Atlantic...

LOL

The story of this season will be the SAL.
The rest of this season will be a dud.
East Coast safe until off-hour GFS shows ridge building.

Agree Kelly nothing more to follow during the rest of the season.Shear is everywhere,el nino is developing, sst's are cooling,MJO is nonfavorable thru november so let's pack and go until 2006.

********NOT A REAL FORECAST...JUST A JOKE*********

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on two puny storms that are undeserving of respect...Tropical Depression Irene...which has officially now been declared dead...and Tropical Storm Harvey...which also has been declared dead by us.

All areas of the Atlantic now have only 70 degree water...40 kt of shear...and is now blanketed by dry MJO and Saharan air. Upper level lows that are covering the Atlantic are not expected to develop.

Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through June 2006.

This season is far from dead. We have Dulst and others to dream and imagine until mid August. His dreams and imagination are complex and entertaining.

We still have had only 2 canes (albiet majors), if we make it through August without another cane this might be labeled as "relatively active but not a destructive year". Wouldnt numbers like this be weird 12/2/2 through the end of August. And a season of 19/4/2.

Time will tell.
