Gulf of Mexico Tropical Summary - GUTS IN on August 8, 2005

<img src="http://www.diamondheadweather.com/guts20050808.jpg">

The one area in the tropical Atlantic basin not dominated by dry air
and Saharan dust is the Gulf of Mexico.

We have two features to talk about today. First is a very weak upper
level low over the Yucatan, which will not develop into a tropical cyclone.

Second is our persistent weak low and associated trough in the northern
GOM. This feature has been around for a week and is not headed
anywhere fast. It will also not develop into a tropical cyclone as
the low interacts with land.

I do not expect tropical cyclone development in the Gulf of Mexico
in the next 48-72 hours.
