EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
TROPICAL DEPRESSION IRENE
NJN WEATHER CENTER
6 PM ET MON AUG 8TH 2005

Irene remains poorly organized and has been downgraded to a tropical depression. This is because of her lack of strong winds, and because of her lack of organization.

Irene is meandering out in the Atlantic, not harming anyone at this time except for mariners and is expected to remain that way. Making a possibly due north jog by the end of the 5 day period.

Irene has been influenced or sheared by lows that have surrounded it and has moved over some cooler pockets of Atlantic waters. Plus the fact that she can't seem to get herself going isn't helping.

My official 5 day forecast for Irene has her regaining storm status but never getting too terribly strong.

Today: Hanging on for dear life. Max Winds: 35 mph
Tuesday:Moving WNW.. Well North and East of the Islands. Max Winds: 35 mph
Wednesday: Back to a TS.. albeit a weak one.. Max Winds: 45 mph
Thursday: Closest approach to the Bahamas.. but well away from them. Max Winds: 50 mph
Friday: Starting to move more poleward. Maybe a watch for Bermuda. Max Winds: 55 mph

comments are always appreciated

I definately think this could be yet another threat for Bermuda this year. Thankfully, Bermuda is just seeing continuous near-misses by tropical storms. As for your wind speed forcast, I agree with that, except to a slower extent. I'm not sure to even consider that Irene will be a 55 mph TS. She's going through tropics-hell right now.

The environment around Irene is making it very rough for her. I am surprised it continues to hang on right now.
