How do you and your spouse deal with your weather fix?

#1 Postby Guest » Mon May 12, 2003 9:34 am

In another thread - I mentioned that when I meet my hubby I told him about my weather addiction and told him I wasn't going to stop. LOL.

Every once in awhile we have a moments - but he's knows I love learning and watching the weather and humors me.

Just curious how others on here handle this with their spouses/partners?

Patricia

I knew he loved me when he took me down to Kemah/Seabrook and towards Galveston when Tropical Storm Frances blew into Galveston while we were dating - I got to see first-hand how things were with 60 mph winds and driving rains (flooding) while the truck he was driving was being blown sideways. If that wasn't true love !!! LOL.

Let's see....about 4 or 5 years ago, cable rates doubled in our area. Hubby yanked the whole thing. We were back to bunny ears for good reception, since he procrastinated and hadn't hooked up the attic antenae. Since I was in major TWC withdrawal, he went out and bought me a wx band radio. Like here's your wx station now Mary.....this will take care of that interest you've got going.....well, it didn't!!! We'd be on vacation and I'd tune into TWC, to get my Cantore fix. Kids wanted to watch Disney/Nickelodeon, etc. We were all fighting over the remote. Fast forward to now, and we're currently with Satellite TV. I have TWC back but now I miss my local forecast.....but I'm not complaining. We did manage to talk him into cable for a few years there, after the bunny ears fiasco. He does not get this wx interest of mine - his approach is to look out the window if you want to know what the wx is. Much more reliable that way. His line - forecasters are never right. Ugh!

My husband has an interest in weather as well, but from an aviation point of view, and does not get all excited watching radars  He thinks I am quite mad in the head with my obsession. He is not very keen on the idea of me spending so much time here online.... he has some weired view of what I am doing online, and cant believe there are other people as obsessed with the weather as I am... oh well guess he will just have to get used to the idea!

My honey thinks I'm nuts!

However, he does know who to ask about the weather when he wants to go riding on his motorcycle!

My wife thinks I am a little too obsessed, but she does not have a problem with me watching TWC or the local forecasts whenever I want to. She just gets jealous whenever I am chatting on-line about weather instead of spending time with her.

Lets just say there's a reason I'm 41 and never married

Not many women will endure a hubby jumping out of bed every couple hours during a soaking downpour...run out to his rain gauge...come back in the house tracking up the floor, call in the report to NWS FFC...then wake her up climbing back into bed

Besides, I'd have a very difficult time finding a woman that'll allow me to name all our kids after other famous hurricanes (here's Andrew Floyd...Betsy Elena...and Donna Opal

I have my interests and he has his. He thinks I spend to much time on the pc but I think he spends to much time on his interests. With that said, he does his thing and I do mine.

"studentmom04" is too busy with her own imperatives to care what I'm interested in...except when it devolves into a war of wills over the tube.

I defuse that by going online (when she isn't), or watching TWC when she IS online. To her credit, though, she DOES ask me to check TWC or online when severe wx rears its head; and I do inform her when I see a front moving our way, as well in advance as possible (which is usually when Oklahoma City or Fort Smith get hit, as these put us directly in the path of "it").

Actually, Michelle is just as bad if not WORSE than I am :o She was a Black Mesa Hot Shot for 11 years, Hot shots for those of you who do not know what they are, Hot Shots are the forest service elite fire fighting force, this is NO LIE, Michelle was a crew boss on that squad, she had a ex Navy Seal in her unit, the guy couldn't hang with her :o :o :o she's a TOUGH little woman I'm tellin ya. ANYWAYS.....with her being a crew boss, she HAD to keep up on the weather conditions 24/7, she was on that crew in Glenwood Springs Colorado where the 14 guys in a Hot Shot Crew were killed by the fire, the reason for the deaths??? Some @$$hole who was SUPPOSE to be keeping an eye on the weather DIDN'T :grr: strong upslope winds came up, the crew didn't receive this info in time, the fire ran over them like nothing

Hmmm, I guess I really can't answer this one just yet...but either I drive people crazy with it or they quote something from the TV News ... then like the last week's tornado in Summerville, I mentioned something at work about the setup looked ripe for severe weather potential, and it occurred later that night ... that was the talk of the entire James Island P.O. among the other clerks and some of the carriers.

Well with Darla...she actually enjoys it. She asks me all the time what the weather is going to be like. We have 2 computers and so we each have time to spend. She spends most of hers online chatting with friends from high school and college. Plus, she works a lot of the time. :) It seems to work out so far!
