Western Atlantic Tropical Summary - WATS UP on August 9, 2005

<img src="http://www.diamondheadweather.com/wats20050809.jpg">

Tropical Depression Irene looks a little better today, with improved
outflow in the north and east quadrants. The west and south quadrants
continue to be limited by the large area of dry air to the west and south of
Irene. Over the next few days, Irene should continue moving west/west
northwest, into a little more favorable environment. I do not expect Irene
to reach hurricane strength.

A tropical wave just south of Hispaniola is moving west across the
Caribbean with some convection. I do not expect this to develop into
a tropical cyclone in the next 24-48 hours.

The upper level low just northeast of the Bahamas will not develop into
a tropical cyclone, but may influence Irene down the road, we'll have to
wait and see.

DH, I agree with everything you said, but climotology is favorable for Irene to become a level 1 or 2 hurricane, IMO.

Thanks.

By the way love reading your EATS and WATS.. I look forward to it. :D

You may very well be right - I'm somewhat conservative on this system,
as well as others, given the SAL and dry air. If that was not in place
right now, we'd all be bald from pulling our hair out! :)

PS - Glad you enjoy the WATS and EATS, thank you!!

I wonder with all that dry air around her, how is she holding together so well? No matter what she does from here on out, definately a tenacious system.

By the way, I also continue to enjoy your posts DH! Keep up the good work
