As my old STL MPD rangemaster said, "If you can't do the job with a .38 Special, you're trying to do something you shouldn't."
If you are opting for a "smokewagon" (revolver) for Michelle, may I suggest a K-38 M-14 S & W Heavy Masterpiece, 6" barrel, target hammer/trigger set for "whisper" on single-action (or one of the newer S & W .357 6" models, with vented rib and magna-ported, also fitted as above), carried in a Bianchi strong-hand side, high-ride thumb-break holster.
The only "real" difference between a .38 Special and a .357 Magnum is the .357's 0.9" longer shell case; the bullet and powder charges are identical (but better if you choose to handload).
If you employ the newest police-approved sub-sonic ammo, she will probably "beat" you in qualification firing...unless you get two of the same type.
