Maybe you should think about starting an Amateur Forecast Thread. These threads are getting a bit out of hand. They are normally just regurgitations of the NHC forecast and have little to no verification. They can say that it will do anything with no ramifications or skill scores. If you put them in one place, it would clean up the board a bit.

Yep - I mentioned that in a PM to one of the mods not long ago. Hopefully, they're considering the possibility. Certainly, things here have "changed" in the very recent past, i.e., this year. Consequently, I agree with your viewpoint...
At the very least, perhaps a sticky titled: Amateur Forecasts Here

I second the motion. It sounds like it would be an appropriate Forum.

I understand where you guys are coming from.. This is why we have instilled new features this year.. Such as the disclaimer for ALL armature forecasts.. Also we have given Pro mets recognition via the Rank images.. And finally we have added the Tropical Analysis forum where also those qualified to post can do so.. So if your looking for quality forecasts thats where you need to look.. This is a public forum and we cant really stop those who want to post there thoughts to do so.. We can only force them to post the disclaimer.. So all I can really say is if you do not want to read the "armature" forecasts just try to skip over them.. I realize that may be bothersome to some, but to stop them would be just as bothersome to others..
Thanks!

We don't want to stop them. Is it difficult to create a Special Forum for amateurs like the one for Pros?

I agree Josh. BTW Welcome. We are honored.linkerweather wrote:with the tropical analysis forum I think that there is no reason to put additional restrictions on this talkin tropics forum. I am often entertained by the extreme enthusiasm from amateurs. Most careers in meteorology begin with someone who loves the weather. So, let it fly, IMO

I always try to not regurgitate what the NHC says, otherwise, why do an amateur forecast in the first place? (In fact, I write my discussion first, use the NHC initial position and come up with a track, and afterwards, I check to see how much different my thinkings and tracks are from the NHC.) I may not know as much, but I do try to learn from my mistakes, I learn as I go, and for right now, I am just experimenting (you might notice if you've read every one of my discussions that I periodically change the format, track, etc.), and I put a lot of work into them. I don't do verification because I don't know how to do them right now.
These threads are not out of hand. They are good opinions by newbies who are eager to learn and experience the stuff that NHC forecasters do every day. I say that the more newbies who attempt this stuff the better.
Anyway, I say that a "Tropical Analyses from Newbies" type of forum would be great.

Actually, I didn't do it because I saw others doing it. I did my first forecast for Emily on July 16, just one day after I registered here (and I didn't lurk, when I saw this forum I immediately registered). I actually did pretty well on it, so I tried it again on Franklin. After I realized that Frank was a fish and I that I was bombing it, I stopped. But I realized that I was lazy, so I decided that I needed a motivation to continue advisories even if the storm was boring, and that was to post my advisories on Storm2k so that if I stopped advisories, people would know about it. Well, this was after Harvey, so my victim was Irene. It was just pure luck that others happened to start doing amateur advisories for the same storm.
Sorry to bore you, but I just wanted to make a point that I'm not doing this because I see others here doing it.

I agree.. there is the message that each and everyone is suppose to post before making a forecast... Do it her, or in the forecasting board... who needs another forum
