2 dead in Central Texas flooding

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Wed Aug 10, 2005 4:12 pm

COMANCHE COUNTY, Texas (WFAA ABC 8/AP) - Heavy rains across central Texas on Wednesday caused flooding in several areas, and led to the deaths of two men who were swept into a rain-swollen creek.

The bodies of the unidentified men were found on Mountain Creek south of Comanche, which is about 125 miles southwest of Dallas, Comanche County Sheriff Jeff Lambert said.

He said crews were searching the area to make sure there were no others in the water.

The search was prompted after a truck driver stalled on Mountain Creek bridge reported seeing a truck being swept into the creek.

According to National Weather Service radar, storms Wednesday dropped up to 10 inches of rain from southeast of Abilene to near Temple. The heaviest rainfall was reported around Brownwood. Numerous roads in the Gatesville area were closed by high water.

Flash flood warnings were issued for eight counties from east of Brownwood to the Waco-Temple-Killeen area. There was also localized flooding reported near the town of Boerne and in several other low-lying areas around the Texas Hill Country.
