DUMBbbbb Question

#1 Postby hobbs » Thu Aug 11, 2005 11:08 am

This is going to be a real dumb question but my mind is already made up providing Irene doesn't deviate much from the current nhc thinking before Saturday. I have a vacation scheduled for Myrtle Beach. Will be arriving early Saturday morning and hoping for the best. I'm quite certain I'll be spending as much time watching her progress as I do on the beach. I won't be doing anything goofy like thinking of riding her out should she decide to visit MB. Whats the realistic opinion of folks much more familiar with tropical systems than I, on WHEN I might know with some certainty that I'm not going to be caught in an evacuation situation? Late Saturday? Sunday? Possibly not until early Monday morning?

Thanks much, Hobbs

you should be fine.....will know alot more in 48 hours....but it would be unlikely that myrtle beach would be in much trouble from a fairly weak and small storm well to the north and/or east.

Not a dumb question at all. The track has changed a lot, but by Saturday I think we'll have a better idea will Irene will go. I wouldn't sound the alarm or the all clear for Myrtle Beach yet. Just watch developments closely.

I see this is your first post here. Welcome to Storm2k. :)

Thanks folks. Although this was my first post, I have followed this board and the old Palm Beach Post one (boy that one was entertaining) for quite some time. Tropical weather is fascinating and I enjoy lurking/tracking systems from the safety of the mountains in WV.

If the storm were to make it to Myrtle Beach, it likely would be weak. The stronger it gets, the more likely Irene is to peel to the north.

You'd probably lose a day on the golf course (great time to check out Ripley's or the aquarium), but on the bright side....there should be some neat shells on the beach the next day.

Have fun and welcome aboard!

I hope you don't like to swim..because I'm sure the beaches will be redflagged..

I also know of one met who brings Irene very near, if not over the Myrtle Beach area as a powerful Category 3 hurricane.

The "fish" people are being premature, and hugging the models way too hard.

No such thing as a dumb question, if it's asked in sincerity!
