It was bad in DC after Isabel, although some parts could definitely use another torrential "wash down." Old Town Alexandria was underwater, Eastern Shore got a lot of damage from the water that backed up in the Bay. CG HQ, located on the Anacostia River was flooded out (lower two levels) and we were "displaced" for about a week and a half.
Isabel wasn't that bad (Hugo vet's own perspective), but the lack of preparedness in the local areas is what was the worse part. No one took it seriously except for my wife and I, another Hugo vet. No one got ready, no one stocked up on the essentials, etc. We only lost power for 4 days, a relative "camping trip" compared to nearly three weeks following Hugo, but you would think it was the end of the world if you saw my neighbors...sad.
Worst comes to worst, I could use a couple of days off without getting charged leave...spend some quality time with my family and the boat.

Don't send another one up the bay like the official track says now. The river flooded bad last time, and seeing how Irene could strengthen more than forecast, that would put it comparably close in strength with Isabel and a lot further up the coast, making everything here worse. Out to the west of DC (where I am), some people were without power for 8-9 days. And my station didn't even get three inches of rain (most of the problems came from flooding). I'd hate to see a slower moving storm affect us here, but it seems possible right now.

I was still living down in Gaithersburg Md when Isabel came through. She did a pretty good number on the Washington DC - Baltimore region. Especially around the Bay. This area up here may have gotten the worse outside of the bay area flooding.
We had come up here the weekend after while our home was being built and we were shocked at the damage. It did not get much news coverage. Allot more trees were down. One local apple orchard lost about half it's trees.
