Welfare reform!

#1 Postby azsnowman » Mon May 12, 2003 10:58 pm

Being in the grocery business for 20 years and being a meat cutter, when the first of the month rolled around, we would see some REAL winners I'm tellin ya. You'd see a healthy, scrappin' young man and wife with 5-6 kids in tow, a grocery cart PILLED to the top, overflowing, they roll it to the check out, bills about 400-500$'s, and they pull out FOOD STAMPS, "THEN" you see them take them outside, put them in a BRAND new pickup/SUV, come BACK inside, put about 50-100$'s worth of booze and beer, check out, pull out a WAD of 20's :grr:

That is a typical scenario that plays out month after month, year after year at the first of the month and it only gets WORSE with each passing year! What REALLY frosts my cookies is to see the *illegals* as mentioned in another thread, whip out food stamps and they aren't even a citizen :grr:

I'm sorry, that ain't right :grr: We have ppl who desperatly need assistance, do you think they can get it, H*** no, *standard answer* "You make too much, you make 20$ over the cutoff!" We need reform and we need it FAST!

I agree that it definately needs an overhaul. I'm glad that at least there's the work to welfare program, but obviously it is not reaching everyone. Like everything else it takes money to be able to have enough people track cases like these and for new technology. Then again, there is probably alot of waste that goes unchecked that could help make the systems more efficient. What I love is state employees that get not only a merit increase, BUT a cost of living increase as well! I don't think half of them understand the value or notion of a full day's work either. Unfortunately, while other people are suffering due to cutbacks in services, NOTHING is being done to make the governments (state and federal) more efficient. Yes, you can cut back budgets all you want, but that isn't necessarily solving the problem.

Good luck in getting any real reform. We have doled out so much money to people that are capable of working that now it's seen as an entitlement. :-( I have no problem with supporting those less fortunate but it should have a requirement to work doing something constructive!

Anyone who can work to support themselves should..Anyone who is entitled to welfare..meaning=needs it to survive should get it.. PLAIN AND SIMPLE minus the illegals...futhermore..I am so sick of supporting every teenager who wants a baby or two or three..you get the picture...Dennis I can relate..I have seen the same thing over and over again!!! I agree Marshall there needs to be a program that investigates the cases after a certain period of time to see if any attempt to become independent of the assistance has been made...The new Welfare motto "TO HELP YOU OUT FOR A YEAR>>NOT YOU CAREER"

I agree that welfare reform should be more strict. But, I hope it doesn't get too strict, for obvious reasons.
