2005 a high risk year for the Philippines?
I know the Philippines are at risk pretty much every year.
However, it seems like in post El-Nino seasons, one or more very intense typhoons slam into the Philippines.
Here are some examples:
El Nino: 1969
1970: Super Typhoons Georgia, Joan, Kate, and Patsy all slam into the Philippines. (Joan struck the Philippines only one day after Kate.)
El Nino: 1977
1978: Super Typhoon Rita
El Nino: 1982-1983
1984: Typhoons Ike and Agnes slam into Philippines
El Nino: 1986-1987
1987: Super Typhoons Betty and Nina
1988: Typhoons Ruby and Skip
El Nino: 1991-1994
1995: Typhoon Zack and Super Typhoon Angela
El Nino: 1997-1998
1998: Super Typhoons Zeb and Babs
El Nino: 2002
2003: Super Typhoon Imbudo

Kate in 1970 hit near Davao in southern Mindanao as a 130 kt Super. Davao is well below 10N. I definitely remember Rita in 1978 as I spent 18 hours on the radar tracking that storm as it passed just north of Clark AB. The wind sensors recorded a peak gust of 58kt but weather personnel living on Base at a higher elevation estimated gusts over 70 kt.
Rita bombed out at below 880 mb. We will see what happens since October and November are the big months for severe typhoons in the Philippines-though they can also hit in December. Until Angela, Patsy was Manila's worse typhoon hit. In 1977, TY Kim passed over Clark AB-Kim peaked at 125kt. before landfalling in Luzon.

I actually went to weather.unisys and wrote all the typhoons that made landfall on the Philippines from 1945-2005.
A few years ago, the names of the typhoons were listed, but now they just do numbers. Fortunately, I wrote down the names a couple years back. (I have Asperger's Syndrome, I love making lists.)
Anyway, I'll give the number, along with the name, peak category, and highest category at landfall on the Philippines.

Typhoon Jean in 1947 was a Christmas storm which tracked between Manila and Clark AB. It was the worst storm in Manila until Patsy 1970 and was the strongest for Clark AB until Irma in 1974 (which I was there for). I don't know if the December 1944 storm that blitzed the US Fleet near the Philippines made landfall in the islands or not. Sometimes they do-though most often in the Visayas but most of them recurve just east of the islands.

Carla was a monster typhoon in size crossing northern Luzon. The storm brought wind gusts to 55kt on Mactan Island just off of Cebu which was over 500 miles from where the center was. Baguio City recorded 47.9 inches of rain in 24 hours from Carla. Emma in 1967 is dear to my heart, it was my first experience of being in the eye of a typhoon. I still remember being outside in nearly calm winds and seeing the clouds on the edge of they eye racing across the sky. I still have my 8mm movie I took of Emma.

Nora in 1973 bombed to 877 mb while east of the Philippines. What your list doesn't show is that in 1974 Bess, Carmen, Della, Elaine, Gloria and Irma all hit northern Luzon between early October and the end of November-with TS Faye in Southern Luzon on Halloween night. Faye and Gloria were huge storms with the diameter of the 1000 mb isobar (which generally delineates the TS force wind envelope in WPAC) being 1000+ miles. Irma was only a bit smaller.
Ironically, the worst weather disaster to hit the Philippines in 1972 came from a typhoon that didn't even hit the island-STY Rita which was at the pivot point of a Fujiwhara involving 4 simultaneous typhoons the combination unleashing a vicious monsoon surge that lasted from early July well into August dumping over 130 inches of rain on Clark AB (Which is located in the rainshadow of the Zambales mountains) resulting in huge floods in Luzon. The social upheaval in the wake of the flood coupled with other political doings was a major factor in the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines leading to the 13+ year Marcos dictatorship.
Only two typhoons in 1976 crossed northern Luzon, but both resulted in flooding second only to the 1972 floods. Kim in 1977 went over Clark AB
and dumped over 12 inches of rain there in a few hours time.

Philippines typhoons 1990-1994
Between 1990-1994, 18 typhoons made landfall on the Philippines.
With the massive eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, 1991 was already a bad year for the Philippines. The fact that Typhoon Yunya was crossing the nation at the time of the eruption didn't help the situation. However, a weak tropical storm named Thelma would prove to be the deadliest natural disaster in the Philippines.
Thelma dumped tremendous amounts of rain on some parts of the Philippines and caused devastating flash floods. What made Thelma so deadly was that the flash floods struck very densely populated areas.
In all, 6315 died, although some say the toll may have been as high as 8000. Thelma was retired from the typhoon name lists.
Here are the 18 landfalling typhoons between 1990-1994.
