When I was growing up, my best friend, a couple of other friends, and I would do our trick-or-treating and then end the night at my house or hers, watching a scary movie (usually my fave - "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) and drinking hot chocolate to get warm. We'd all pick a section of living room carpet on which to station ourselves while we dumped our loot and sorted through the goodies. Then we'd trade with each other in order to get rid of the candy we weren't necessarily fond of. For example, I never liked Babe Ruths, Butterfingers, those orange and black peanut-butter chews, and anything cherry-flavored. Those always got traded out.
Did anybody else do it that way?
Of course, there was no indulging in any sweets until after the parents checked the wrappings. If it was wet, sticky, or melting, we didn't risk it.
