Yes, I checked and it is valid!

The National Hurricane Center expects Maria to first weaken as it becomes extratropical. As Maria moves further north, she is expected to be become a powerful mid-latitude cyclone with winds of hurricane force; that is why the increase in strength is shown. It is still expected to have tropical storm-force winds at least as far north as Iceland.

Maria is a very tough system, that's for sure!

People in Iceland, Norway, Sweden and in other nearby areas should monitor this. It could easily become a problematic gale for ships (including fishing ships) in the Norwegian Sea.

At 6am GMT Maria was down to 974hPa and is expected to deeped to around 969hPa. It looks like it could be a bit windy in Iceland, Northern Scotland, and across to Norway and Sweden.

I sure this was down to 969hPa on the 12pm GMT charts but it has risen to 970hPa on the 6pm GMT charts. Note that Nate is followinmg closely behind http://www.met.fu-berlin.de/de/wetter/maps/anabwkna.gif

Winds in Rekjavik were 22kts gusting to 38kts (10 minute averages) at 7pm GMT. I've also seen a report of 60kt sustained winds from an Icelandic station at 3pm GMT.
