Yes, I checked and it is valid!
The National Hurricane Center expects Maria to first weaken as it becomes extratropical. As Maria moves further north, she is expected to be become a powerful mid-latitude cyclone with winds of hurricane force; that is why the increase in strength is shown. It is still expected to have tropical storm-force winds at least as far north as Iceland.
Maria is a very tough system, that's for sure!

I sure this was down to 969hPa on the 12pm GMT charts but it has risen to 970hPa on the 6pm GMT charts. Note that Nate is followinmg closely behind http://www.met.fu-berlin.de/de/wetter/maps/anabwkna.gif
Winds in Rekjavik were 22kts gusting to 38kts (10 minute averages) at 7pm GMT. I've also seen a report of 60kt sustained winds from an Icelandic station at 3pm GMT.
