Katrina, Dennis, Ivan severely damaged/destroyed the Gulf Coast.
FL has been hit 8 times since 2004, but not as bad as Katrina on Gulf
Coast.

Especially when from 2000-2002 we only had 1 hurricane and that was Lili, then starting with 2003 each year got worse. I don't think many thought we could have a worse season than last year.
Here were the most expensive Tropical Systems pre 2003 (unadjusted)
1. Andrew
2. Hugo
3. Allison
4. Floyd
5. Fran
Now
1. Katrina ??
2. Andrew
3. Charley
4. Ivan
5. Frances
6. Hugo
7. Jeanne
8-10. Floyd/Isabel/ Dennis??

Yea you're right. FL West Coast is part of the Gulf Coast.

Actually,
the Florida West Coast counts as a part of the East Coast, not the Gulf Coast. I am not sure why Dr Chris Landsea has made this classification, but he said that the pattern of impacts there are the same as the EC, not the GC, which is why the WC of Florida is considered as the East Coast
