Given what happened with Katrina last month after some said Katrina would never develop very much before impacting Florida, Im gonna watch this closely.

Oh, I am not saying it won't develop--it may well do so. I don't think it will be on a similar track to katrina--it will be a low tracker in all probability, and go through the Straits of Florida into Mexico---far more likely given the latitude and current movement than a Florida threat.

Well, it won't take a week for it to reach So. Fl if it does.

Well, I agree he usually does get panic. Almost all of his posts seem to have the " " smiley in them! But, folks in FL should be watching as they did with Katrina. Don't panic by any means, but watch it closely.

Id prefer to follow the instructions from the official weather offices and since they issued that special weather alert for south florida regarding 96L(I believe there is a thread for it already), we need to watch it. NOt saying it will become a monster cat 5 hurricane, but something we still need to watch.

LOL, well I know that where boca_chris is very panicky and quick to jump, Nastycat4 seems to be quite the opposite and has downplayed almost everything that has formed or had the potential to form and affect land, especially the US. I believe he/she did the same with Katrina.

We'll see what happens...each scenario seems fair game to me at this point.

Nope, when it finally developed from the remnant of TD 10, or as an independent TD#12, I was sure that it would go into the Gulf. As a matter of fact, I was one of the folks repudiating the "right hook" theory for Katrina, as it seemed that it was overestimating the strength of a ridge, and that has been an issue all year.

Oh, OK. Thanks for clarifying.

I know there was someone (and it wasn't just Bob Breck, but somebody on this board) that was insisting it would turn away from FL and head out to sea, but can't remember who now.

Well, it doesn't matter I guess. We all know how that "forecast" turned out.

Somehow, I've lost any enthusiasm for following the hurricane season after Katrina---I kind of feel the way I did after 9-11, when 7 people I knew were killed in the WTC. I know folks in NOLA, and the whole idea of more canes makes me more than a little sick to my stomach.

I hate to hear you lost some you knew on 9-11.

I feel nearly the same way you do, having such a passion for weather including hurricanes, and seeing the destruction of Katrina, it just makes me wish there wouldn't be any more hurricanes and literally almost makes me sick.

Mother Nature doesn't stop unfortunately, so I'm guess to here to see what happens next. I just hope nothing (even a TS) tries to head up toward the LA or MS/Al area. They've had such good progress, and it would certainly slow them down if not put them back significantly. If it were strong enough, it could be an all new disaster. Makes me cringe to think about...

I noticed that there are no birds to be found here in Palm Beach County....anybody notice this in S. Florida? There is definitely something heading this way.

Not trying to be mean, but why did you bump this thread? That could've gone in the TD18 thread.

This will still be a Keys storm in all likelyhood, with fringe effects for Miami-Dade and Broward on up. Will watch the potential relocation closely though.

Anybody in Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach should be watching this very closely....if it strengthens more rapidly look for a more WNW movement north of the FL Keys into S. Florida

It will minimally be a CAT 1 before reaching S. Florida and a major is not out of the question.

The center is also forming north of where the NHC has it. the NHC noted this and I think we'll see a shift right at the 5pm advisory.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen any outside the condo today either. Interesting....
