Where will Rita make landfall?

#1 Postby aOl » Sun Sep 18, 2005 11:20 pm

I think it's obvious it's going to be some type of U.S. landfall, but I left the Mexico option on there for hopeful people :D

Oh, and this isn't counting if it hits South Florida or something, I'm talking about the 2nd landfall (if it even IS a 2nd landfall).

I didn't know North Texas had a coast either. :P

I'm just teasing you aOl. ;) I've seen a lot of people call it North Texas or NE Texas. It's just kinda funny. I live here. Nothing north about it. lol

We call it Southeast Texas here and/or the Upper Texas Coast (the latter particularly when referring to the tropics) but I think most people know what you meant.

I picked "north texas" but I would have picked the middle Texas coast if that was an option. I think it'll (2nd?) landfall slightly north of Port O'Connor, which is around the area Hurricane Claudette hit back in 2003.

Personally, I think the high is going to move east enough to protect the Louisana area. The only question for Texans tonight is how far east the high moves...

I picked Mexico for no good reason other than Bret, Gert, Jose (and Emily) already went there - Nate was confused I guess.

Actually, Rita might get hung up on the Yucatan.....

I'm starting to think that by the middle of the week Texas will be completely ruled out altogether.

I would say the reasoning would be the breakdown of the high over the Gulf Coast for the later period.

If Rita gets as strong as I think she will, that high will be no match for her. And course there's the fact that storms in this area don't usually hit Texas, though that's not really a good reason for prediction. I just don't see it.
