Residents should have their hurricane plans ready. Hopefully what has happened with Katrina will scare many into action when the time comes to put those plans in place.
They have had some TS's but I think only one or two hurricanes have made landfall in Texas during the past twenty years or so. They have either been been very lucky or there might be some kind of decadal pattern going on.

Well, a few more hurricanes than that.

There was actually another hurricane which made landfall in 1989. Its name was Jerry. It was the latest in a season a hurricane has made landfall in Texas (October 15th).
The pattern that late in the year just doesn't support hurricanes to make it to Texas. If you haven't seen a hurricane by mid-September in Texas, the likelyhood of one threatening after that is very low...

I stand corrected. My memories getting bad. I need to look things up. I forgot about Claudette! But remebered 83's Alicia.
Still two in 15 years... possibly 16???? is not that bad considering how active it got after 1995. Texas has been rather lucky. Or like I said it's a decadal pattern.

BTW
I am not trying to make light of someone else's wishing that Texas were already safe from storms, I just wanted to revive this thread to remind everyone just how amazingly different this Tropical Season seems to be. Not really amazed in a good way anymore though. A religious man begins to wonder...
