Interesting WPAC statistic

#1 Postby DoctorHurricane2003 » Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:40 am

The WPAC just reached their last name on the last list (Saola) and have restarted the naming lists with storm 1 on list 1 (Damrey). The first Damrey was a super typhoon in May of 2000. It took 5 years and 4 months to go through all of the names.

There are 5 lists with 28 names on each list, which gives a total of 140 names.

So they don't just quit a list at the end of the year like we do? Interesting....is 5 yrs. the average time for them to get through the names? (I'm totally clueless about WPAC stuff  )

yes for example, if the last system this year was Damrey (name 1 on list 1), the first storm of 2006 would be Longwang (name 2 on list 1)

They just introduced these lists in 2000, so this is the first time they have completed going through all of the names. :)

Where did you find that information? And do we know what names will replace those four?

That's disappointing...Bilis should have been retired as well.

I agree it hit as a cat5. In the united states if something hit as a cat5 it would almost have to hit where Bret hit not to be retired.

Wow, that's really surprising.

Maemi and Tokage should've been retired as well... Maemi at least was pretty awful for S. Korea.

I never hear of complete destruction in Taiwan from typhoons. How much damage did Bilis do? I mean it hit as a Cat 5.

Bilis was probably one of the most damaging to ever hit Taiwan.
