What evacuation zone are you in? If you are not in 1, 2 or 3, then maybe just staying put is the best idea unless this bombs up to a 5 and stays that way until about 200 miles from the coast.
I think the smartest thing to do is just avoid the surge. If you are caught there late because of your husband's job, then just go inland to a shelter that is out of the surge area. The surge should dissipate quickly and the storm is supposed to move fast, so you'd be able to get back to your house fairly quickly. Now, how fast you'll have electric, etc., is still TBD. Do you have a generator?
