When Will Panic Mode Set In for Wilma?

#1 Postby gatorcane » Tue Oct 18, 2005 11:04 pm

Surprisingly I don't see panic yet here in SE FL despite a rapidly intensifying hurricane that has the potential to be a CAT 4+ in less than 24 hours.

hmmm...

I think panic will set in on Thurs big time once the turn to the N and NNE starts to happen.

I'm just hoping word starts to get out for S. Floridians that danger looms. I think many still think that it is going to turn or weaken or some gift from God is going to prevent this from being a catastrophe. Also, SE Floridians are complacent about the SW approach thinking an Atlantic approach should only be concerning.

At least one grocery store here in Naples was low on water this evening and there were short lines at the gas stations. I had trouble finding 5 gallon gas cans.

If people wake up to a strong 4 or a 5... it will begin.

With Wilma dropping 15 mB in less than 5 hours, she's on track to be a CAT 4+ by tomorrow AM.

Katrina dropped 31 mB in 9 hours and went from 110 mph to 160 mph winds.

Panic will start soon enough. I'm sure Tampa EOC is burning the midnight oil. Horrible area to try and evacuate. Tons of special needs folks in the metroplex.

No doubt, Brent. I'm really concerned about Tampa Bay. IMHO, she'll be too big to make such a hard right turn farther south.

I actually think she will... This is really really looking like a Keys and Miami/Fort Lauderdale/WPB hurricane.

It's going to be bad for someone no matter how it's sliced.

Yes... and the problem with the Keys is there is only one way out.

Panic will begin as soon as the media gets word of the latest recon findings. Media panic that is. 8-)

The media frenzy begins (justified to an extent). People in Florida prepare.

I'd say from when that recon report came in. CNN now has "Forecasters say Hurricane Wilma is now an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 hurricane, with top sustained winds of 150 mph." as a breaking news top banner on there website!

When people wake up and see sub-900mb and category 5, more than a few will do a triple-take. God help wherever this thing goes.
