Did Wilma really miss the shortwave trough?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Did Wilma really miss the shortwave trough?

#1 Postby krysof » Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:42 pm

The mets and the NHC said that because it didn't make the turn, but it is turning probably NNW over the past several hours and maybe it didn't miss it, but it just didn't feel its effects, but now since its close to it, it is going NNW.

Dr. Steve Lyons on TWC just said 2 minutes ago that it did miss the trough, but another one is coming through on Sunday to sweep it East (towards FL).

She missed the 1st one, but there's a 2nd one coming, and even a 3rd.

The news has described it like this:
The FIRST trough is just going to nudge it, not shove it into FL like expected. The second, and third troughs are suppose to shove it into Florida's directions, the second trough is suppose to 'catch up' into the first trough and help carry this storm into Florida.

The first trough is missing it but exerting a slight northerly pull.

The reason why this northerly pull has continued I think
has to do with the eroding of the high that was supposed to
suppress Wilma's north component.

Thus that initial exertion of northerly pull by the trough has caused the
storm to start north, and it is continuing north because the high
is eroding...
