The fallen soldier was at the wrong place at the wrong time... roadside bomb. He was killed; the others in the vehicle were injured. Sadly, this happens at a rate we cannot control. Yes, we can send armor to the war zones, however, all the armor in the world cannot protect us from uncontrollable IEDs (ie landmines).
It really didn't hit me that I handled an HR until I got home from work. The Army Sgt (that traveled with his friend) was impressed with the way we handled the transfer of the body and paid our respects. It just shows emotional roller coaster one can ride throughout their own military career. Taking life forgranted is something we shouldn't do... I know it is hard at times; however, we have to get over that demand and look at the bright side of the spectrum... your life could change in an instant... and it will never be to the extent of what you had before the life-altering event. Sadly, this soldier was married and had 2 children... 11 & 15.
I know that we are close to the war, however, here in Qatar, it really doesn't feel like a wartime situation.... in a sense we are busy with soldiers/cargo/planes coming in/out... but with the lack of personal protection (compared the other countries) we have it extremely easy.
