The radio is indicating that the eyewall is crossing the coast just to the east of Onslow. They've had around 140mm of rain at Onslow in the last 2 hours. Looks like the worst of it will probably miss Exmouth, passing by at about midnight. It seems to be showing signs of weakening reasonably quickly now and the suggestion is that it will take a slightly inland track, passing Carnarvon in about 15 hours - fortunately about 80 kms inland from the town as a Cat 2. Its far enough east to have the winds coming up from the south along the coast, which is good in terms of reducing the possibility of storm surge at Onslow.

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH
A CYCLONE WARNING is now current for a SEVERE CATEGORY 4 CYCLONE for coastal
areas between Dampier and Kalbarri and inland to Mount Augustus and includes
inland parts of the western Pilbara district.
A CYCLONE WATCH extends south to Jurien Bay and inland to Yalgoo, and includes
inland parts of the Gascoyne and Central West districts.
At 9pm WST SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE GLENDA was
5 kilometres to the southeast of Onslow and
115 kilometres east northeast of Exmouth
and was moving south southwest at 18 kilometres per hour over the past 6 hours.
The eye of SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE GLENDA was located over Onslow at 9pm.
Residents of Onslow are warned that very destructive winds will soon resume
without warning from a different direction. The cyclone briefly stalled as it
moved over the coast, but is expected to resume a south southwest track.
Destructive winds with gusts to 130 kilometres per hour are occurring on the
coast between Mardie and Exmouth. Very destructive gusts to 235 kilometres an
hour are expected near the cyclone centre, and are occurring on the coast in the
vicinity of Onslow.
Very destructive winds will extend southward though the western Pilbara
overnight and Friday as the system moves further south and gradually weakens.
Residents at Onslow are specifically warned of the potential for a very
dangerous storm tide as the cyclone centre crosses the coast. Tides are likely
to rise significantly above the normal high tide mark with very dangerous
flooding and damaging waves.
Widespread heavy rain and flooding are likely in the western Pilbara and western
Gascoyne over the next few days.
