Thanks guys! I remembered getting these as a kid, and about five years ago decided that I would make them for my crew!
Mary, they are done in steps:
- First you mold them (sugar, meringue powder, water and coloring) - you mold the bottom part and the top part of the egg. You hollow out the middle, and then you let them dry for about 12 hours.
- Next you decorate the inside of them, and seal the top to the bottom. You let them set for a few hours.
- Next you do your trim work around the center part of the egg where you join the top and bottom, and around the opening. Let that set for a while (the icing has to dry). This is also when I make the roses, that way they have time to dry as well.
- Lastly you put the rose on top and add the leaves!
I put them in a "window" box with Easter grass, it makes a real pretty presentation
