I really have to laugh. Dr. Niel was right on this forecast, but I don't think even he caught the rain developing to our SW this afternoon. What gives? Not only are we back in the soup, but rain heading towards Houston at 4:20 today?

Now doesn't that figure? The Weather Gods must have gotten wind of our plans for a motor-sickle ride out to Round Top tomorrow.

That was probably the shortest lived cold front I've ever seen, it's already warming up again and we'll only be in the low 60's tonight followed by 90's every day starting Sunday through Friday. So much for an early fall. :grrr:

7:10 p.m: light rain under the Bear Creek Dome and some good thunder rolling outside. I'm actually enjoying it. I've walked the curs, showered, jumped in my jammies, got a glass of wine, and continued some research. The thunder is quite a nice accompaniment. I love thunderstorms after dark. :D

The Houston thread has been going for quite awhile....so lets keep it going.

Walking from the Dallas/Travis Metro stop 2 blocks to the office was very nice. Riding the Metro Bus back to League City I noticed we had something to the SW. The weather throws everyone curves from time to time. It was impressive to see the VIS sat explode this afternoon.......seabreeze and warmfront interaction.

Agree! It's nice to be able to head to one thread instead of sifting through multiples. Much easier on my old eyes. :D

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
230 PM CDT SAT SEP 30 2006

.DISCUSSION...
THE WEATHER STORY FOR SOUTHEAST TEXAS OVER THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS WILL
BE WARM TEMPERATURES. NO COLD FRONTS WILL EVEN GET CLOSE TO OUR AREA.
UPPER LEVEL RIDGING IS STILL EXPECTED TO BUILD ACROSS THE AREA OVER
THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS AND REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY FOR MUCH OF THE UPCOMING
WEEK AS AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH DEEPENS OUT WEST. AT THE SURFACE...A HIGH
PRESSURE RIDGE WILL BE IN CONTROL OF OUR AREA. THE COMBINATION OF THESE
FEATURES WILL KEEP RAIN CHANCES ON THE VERY VERY LOW SIDE (NOT WORTH
MENTIONING IN THE ZONES). IN FACT...MODELS STILL INDICATE PRECIPITABLE
WATER VALUES FALLING TOWARD THE END OF NEXT WEEK AS AN EVEN DRIER AIRMASS
MOVES INTO THE AREA FROM THE EAST AND NORTHEAST. AS MENTIONED IN PREVIOUS
DISCUSSIONS...OUR DIURNAL TEMPERATURE RANGE MIGHT END UP BEING QUITE
LARGE THE SECOND HALF OF NEXT WEEK. WE COULD EVEN END UP SEEING SOME
RECORD HIGHS.

RELIEF MAY COME TOWARD THE END OF NEXT WEEKEND OR THE START OF NEXT
WEEK AS THE UPPER TROUGH OUT WEST BEGINS TO MOVE OFF TO THE EAST AND
BREAKS DOWN OUR UPPER RIDGE. AS A RESULT...DAYTIME HIGHS SHOULD BEGIN
TO COME DOWN AND WE SHOULD END UP SEEING INCREASING RAIN CHANCES WITH
THE APPROACH OF A COLD FRONT. 42

Great idea Extreme. I was wondering if we'd get booted out of USA and into Winter Weather in another month or so, and that solves that. Many thanks for the great job of keeping we Houstonians up on current weather events.

In fact, I think it's such a great idea I'd love to see threads for other cities pop up on the board. Any takers?

Thank you :D , and hopefully this thread will last for quite awhile. I am just glad that instead of having to navigate through 2-3 threads over the same topic, we can go to just this one and have a better discussion with the most up to date information. It should make the winter season ahead a much better one for Houstonians here on S2K.

I also agree that other cities should join in too...especially those with a large S2K population. It would radically cut down on the number of new threads being created, and would make finding the most up to date information a breeze.

don't worry. After this hot week ahead, fall should return next week.

Check out the latest 18Z GFS:

^^Oct. 11th...CF makes it through our area^^

And then beyond this front, an overall cooler period should take over again. :D
