I just did a double take with the last fading light to make sure I did not hallucinate.
Yep these are fast moving tropical scuds. Perhaps I am over-reacting but after yesterdays deluge I am surprise the atmosphere can turn around so quick again.

Time to rename the thread "ANOTHER LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN EVENT WILL BE UNFOLDING THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH TONIGHT ACROSS MUCH OF SE TX."

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY
MORNING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HOUSTON/GALVESTON HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WATCH FOR A PORTION OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS...INCLUDING THE
FOLLOWING COUNTIES...AUSTIN...BRAZORIA...CHAMBERS...COLORADO...
FORT BEND...GALVESTON...HARRIS...JACKSON...LIBERTY...
MATAGORDA...MONTGOMERY...POLK...SAN JACINTO...WALLER AND
WHARTON.

* FROM NOON CDT TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING

* AN ABUNDANCE OF GULF MOISTURE WILL INTERACT WITH A SURFACE
BOUNDARY ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS BY EARLY THIS AFTERNOON TO
PRODUCE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MOST OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS.
THE STRONGEST STORMS ARE EXPECTED MAINLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF A
LINE FROM COLUMBUS TO LIVINGSTON. MORE THUNDERSTORMS WILL
DEVELOP ALONG AND AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THAT WILL MOVE ACROSS
THE AREA TONIGHT AND OFF THE COAST BY MID MORNING THURSDAY. BY
THURSDAY MORNING...AVERAGE RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES ARE
EXPECTED AND ISOLATED TOTALS UP TO 5 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE.

* A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON
CURRENT FORECASTS. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE
ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE
TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING
DEVELOP.

IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED...DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS
WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT
TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER
SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY.

IF YOU FIND YOUR VEHICLE CAUGHT IN RISING WATER...OPEN THE
WINDOWS OR DOORS QUICKLY BEFORE THE WATER PRESSURE BECOMES TOO
GREAT. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...ABANDON IT AND SEEK HIGHER GROUND
IMMEDIATELY. RAPIDLY RISING WATER MAY ENGULF YOUR VEHICLE AND ITS
OCCUPANTS AND SWEEP THEM AWAY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

What a turnaround. Been sweltering again since yesterday afternoon. Just got back from walking the dogs and had to hose myself down and throw my ruined clothing in the wash. YUK! Doesn't bode well for a good night's snooze this evening. Methinks we'll be readying the ark again.

Wow...F1 or F2! This is the area I was talking about just west of Beaumont. I posted some pictures in this thread yesterday.

National Weather Service Surveys Southeast Texas Storm Damage
( Air Date: 10/17/2006 )

Powerful storms rolled through the southeast Texas community of China Monday, damaging some homes and flattening others. Roger Erickson of the National Weather Service thinks it was an F1 or F2 tornado that caused the damage. Erickson says that meteorologists determine whether storm damage is caused by straight-line winds or a tornado in part by looking at the debris fields. If the debris fields show a radial pattern, then the damage was probably caused by a tornado; if the debris fields are in the same direction, then straight-line winds are probably the culprit. In any case, Monday`s storms were a traumatic experience for people in China.

I'm most concerned about wind gusts. The city came out today and removed one tree that blew over from the storms we just had. The ground is saturated and we have many trees, some of which are quite old and rotting and really need to be removed (but on our terms).

Falling trees and those floating balls of fire ants scare the heck out of me.

A few houses down from Brookside Village in Pearland, TX. I don't know why my signature doesn't show. I just went to my profile again and the box is checked so I'm not sure why it's not working.

As Pine Island Bayou continues to rise and the creek by my house is about to go over the street, it's pouring down rain again. Unreal.

In Newton County, the water is rising so much that there are homes with water up to their roof tops. They have been evacuating people.

ImageSheriff Joe Walker has been working for hours, helping evacuate residents from their homes.
KFDM News rode along with walker to help Daigle retrieve some personal items.
In some areas, the water is about 20 feet deep.
The water from Cow Creek left huge logs, propane tanks and dozens of vehicles including this Ford Mustang submerged in the water.
Walker says evacuating this community was harder than he anticipated.

"Some have refused to leave and are staying. They are afraid of looters."

I saw them too, pretty crazy.

Also - anyone else notice that spectacular sunset last night? It was really something in The Woodlands.
