This morning started out as a cloudy day in the North Texas area with temps in the 50s. Then at 8:00AM CDT, the fog started to form, reducing visinilities to 2.5 miles. There were some pocket areas of light rain and drizzle as well. At around lunchtime, visibilities dropped dramatically to .15ths of a mile, however, the current visibility at this hour is 1/2 a mile. Still a little dangerous to be driving though. Temperatures fell to the upper 40s by Midday, but eventually remained steady throughout the day. Right now, we got an area of light to moderate rain along and west of a line from Paris to DFW to south of Brownwood, all moving to the Northeast. Heavier rain and thundertorms are predicted for North Texas this evening through Wednesday afternoon, however no flooding is expected.

The rain continues across North Texas as a cold front passes through the area, bringing cooler temperatures andwindy conditions this afternoon. A line of thunderstorms was detected along a line from between Gainesville and Sherman, East of Fort Worth, and Meridian.

Well, the rainy event wasn't as all cracked up to be, but we managed to get over a half an inch on Tuesday and Wednesday. We're still almost 7 in. below normal, but it's much better than last year where we're over 15 in. behind. On this Last-minute Christmas shopping weekend, we're gonna see increasing clouds on Saturday and a chance of rain that night and Christmas Eve, which wil taper off by Christmas Day. Highs will be in the 50s to lower 60s and lows in the 30s. Any wintry precip that was forecasted to fall on Christmas Eve has gone by the wayside, which is good news for travelers here, yet bad news for us Texans, because we wanted to see a snow white Christmas. Oh well, there's always next year I suppose.

To recap the Christmas Weekend Forecast for Irving, TX (via NWS):

We're gonna have a wet Christmas Eve with a chance of showers all day. A chance of a few wet flurries on the night before Christmas is... (how can I put it) ...pending. All the precip will move out by Christmas Day. Highs from Today on will be in the 50s and lows are in the 30s.

Well, the forecast has once again changed in DFW. It seems we may have a 20% chance of a White Christmas after all. Some of us will see some snow flurries by the time Santa Claus makes his way to this area. Of course the snow won't last long as skies gradually become Partly Cloudy by 10:00AM CST. Of course, it's also gonna be windy by afternoon; otherwise, all is calm and all is bright by that evening.

Once again, snow is taken back out of the DFW forecast...I take it back, it's back in the forecast...it's taken back out...back in--MAKE UP YOUR MIND NWS!!!! Either way, we may not get some winter weather tonight. All the precip (if any) will be moving out of North Texas and skies will become Partly Cloudy by Christmas Day, however we'll have wind gusts up to 35 MPH that day, so if you have a light weight gift and you're gonna try it out, do so at your own risk. As for the rest of the week, we'll see Mostly Clear to Mostly Cloudy skies from Christmas Night to Wednesday with highs in the 50s-60s and lows in the 30s and 40s. On Wednesday Night to Friday, we'll see another chance of rain and thunderstorms with highs in the 60s and lows in the 50s. And from Friday Night on to New Year's Eve, we'll see Mostly Clear to Partly Cloudy skies with highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s.

Well, we didn't get a slushy Christmas as forecasted this morning, but the good news is that we got yet another half an inch over the last 24 hours.

A Wind Advisory continues for the entire North Texas area until 6:00PM CST.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:SUSTAINED NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH
WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON. THE WINDS
WILL DIMINISH AFTER SUNSET.

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 20 TO
30 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT...
ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. BOATERS SHOULD USE EXTRA
CAUTION WHEN VENTURING ONTO AREA LAKES. RESIDENTS MAY WISH TO TAKE
ACTION TO SECURE TRASH CANS...LAWN FURNITURE...AND OTHER
LIGHTWEIGHT OUTDOOR OBJECTS THAT MAY BE BLOWN AROUND IN THE STRONG
WINDS.

In other words, if you're gonna try out your light-weight Christmas gift outdoors, do so at your own risk.

Later this week, we're gonna see some thunderstorms, mainly after Midnight Thursday Night. A few of those could be severe depending on moisture stability. The severe weather threat will dissipate as another cold front sweeps through North Texas on Friday.

As mentioned before, there's a big chance of thunderstorms for the North Texas area by late Thursday Night, with the main severe weather threat developing on Friday. The following HWO is self explainatary.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH TEXAS.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT
NO HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY
A FEW SEVERE STORMS WITH LARGE HAIL ARE POSSIBLE LATE THURSDAY NIGHT
OVER WESTERN SECTIONS OF NORTH TEXAS. THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT WILL
OVERSPREAD THE REMAINDER OF NORTH TEXAS ON FRIDAY...THEN LINGER OVER
FAR EASTERN AREAS FRIDAY EVENING. STRONG WIND SHEAR IN THE ATMOSPHERE
AHEAD OF THE UPPER LOW SHOULD AID IN SUSTAINED DEVELOPMENT OF
THUNDERSTORMS...WITH SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE FRIDAY.

A VIGOROUS STORM SYSTEM AND ASSOCIATED SURFACE DRYLINE WILL MOVE
EAST OUT OF THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES AND INTO WEST TEXAS LATE THURSDAY
NIGHT AND THROUGH THE DAY FRIDAY. TIMING OF THIS SYSTEM...ALONG
WITH AVAILABLE MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY ARE STILL IN QUESTION AND
WILL BE MONITORED CLOSELY IN FUTURE FORECASTS. HEAVY RAINFALL IS ALSO
POSSIBLE...DUE TO THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE SYSTEM.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT EXPECTED.

By New Year's Day, we'll have Partly Cloudy and Cool conditions with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. If I'm not mistaken, some cities are still banning fireworks due to the severe drought.

Forecast:

Thursday

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH TEXAS.

.DAY ONE...
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS WEST CENTRAL
TEXAS TONIGHT. A FEW OF THESE STORMS WILL MOVE INTO WESTERN SECTIONS
OF NORTH TEXAS AROUND DAYBREAK AND WILL PRODUCE CLOUD TO GROUND
LIGHTNING AND SMALL HAIL.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD AND MORE INTENSE
DURING THE DAY FRIDAY AS A POWERFUL WEATHER SYSTEM MOVES EAST
FROM NEW MEXICO. ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE POSSIBLE ON FRIDAY AS A COLD FRONT MOVES
INTO THE AREA. SEVERAL ROUNDS OF SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY
COULD LEAD TO LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS IN SOME AREAS.

THE SEVERE WEATHER AND HEAVY RAIN THREATS WILL DIMINISH FROM WEST TO
EAST BEGINNING FRIDAY EVENING.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL NOT BE NEEDED THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY
MORNING. SPOTTER ACTIVATION MAY BE NEEDED BEFORE MIDDAY
FRIDAY IN MANY AREAS OF NORTH TEXAS.

In other words, it's gonna be a busy 24 hour period as of now.

Well, it seems we may get some heavy rain after all. The obvious million dollar question is that would it fill the deficit by New Year's Eve? Probably not, but it's good to know that we're not almost 20 inches of rain behind like last year. Sheesh that year was depressing.

Here's a timeline* of the DFW forecast:

At this hour, scattered showers continue to develop and move north, some of the showers already swept through Irving, Dallas, Mineral Wells, Meridian, Stephenville, Decatur, and now Plano, McKinney, Jacksboro, Sherman, to just south of Denton. Rain amounts ranging from a Trace to 1/4 of an inch are expected, but that's nothin' compared to what we're gonna get this afternoon.
