I agree. I'm not usually as strong as this on criminal justice issues but this just goes beyond the pale. I say 15-25.

Knowing the justice system, the judge hearing the case will probably lament how horrible their lives had been up to this point and give them probation and 30 days of counselling or something.

Also a crime like this is usually found in the past histories of serial killers, etc. They need to be locked away before they do any more damage.

I'm certain they will get jail time due to the breaking and entering and grand larceny. Those are two felonies.

If they get off without jail time, the judge will be saying it is OK to break into someone's property, destroy that property, brutally murder a dog, but if a 17 year old has sex, automatic 10 years.

I'll go further, if they are let off, expel the state from the Union

Horrendous, yes. However, I've seen precious little energy spent on the motive for these crimes. Normally teenagers don't bake animals, so it is probable that something vile and disgusting happened or is happening at home. Remeber that some serial killers were also involved in animal cruelty prior to their killing sprees. If you spend all of your time treating the symptoms of the disease you'll never determine what might have caused it.

Prison time for the teenagers, but also an extensive investigation into their past. It is highly unlikely that these teenagers are the living embodiment of evil, the beast, or that Damien kid from that movie. Something else is at play here. Society ignores it at its own peril.

The harshest sentence I've ever heard of for animal cruelty was 12 years. Of course, that case was more horrific than this one. However, due to the nature of it, I won't get into it.

Sounds like they fit the definition of psychopath.

I didn't see that, but had heard about the lack of remorse when reading a story online earlier. Most states would give five years for the animal cruelty alone.

I know from my experience in SC that the law reads: whosoever mutilates, tortures, or cruelly kills an animal or, by omission or commission, allows it to be done is guilty of a felony and must be imprisoned not less than 180 days or not more than five years.

Many other states' statues are worded almost identically. So they should get the five years, plus any other charges.

But, there is one thing that I hope is not overlooked. Anyone who would do this is a psychopath and is MUCH more likely than an average person to kill a human being at random. The day they leave jail, they should be off to the state hospital where they can live out their lives without killing other members of society who've earned the right to remain a part of it.

This is NOT an animal cruelty case, though. It is a case of breaking and entering, grand larceny extortion, witness tampering, vandalism, ALONG with animal cruelty

These aren't people... I don't want to be classed as the same species as "people" like this.. Hope they feel the pain they caused the dog plus more, with the same end result.

These sick people are right on track to becoming serial killers. They should get some serious psychotherapy before they start doing these things to people.
