funny as how they pick up there, they calm down here. We have gone from very gusty (40-45mph) just twenty minutes ago down to probably 20-25mph gusts right now. Seems like these winds are coming in random bursts.KatDaddy wrote:Wow! The winds just kicked in at League City. Just got a gust to 27MPH.

WEAK SHOWERS MOVE ACROSS THE AREA. SUSTAINED WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
AVERAGE BETWEEN 15 AND 20 MPH THROUGH MIDNIGHT AND DECREASE TOWARD
SUNRISE. WIND GUSTS COULD BRIEFLY EXCEED 40 MPH AT TIMES THROUGH

At midnight a Flash Flood Watch will be issued for the northern two thirds of Southeast Texas and last until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The order will include metro Houston but not Galveston or coastal counties.
It also includes the following counties: Austin, Brazos Burleson, Colorado, Fort Bend, Grimes, Harris, Houston, Liberty Madison, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Waller, Washington and Wharton.
In fact, reports indicate that 2 to 4 inches of rain with isolated 5 to 7 inches are possible.
Strong storms and heavy rain will move through the Houston area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
That system is currently pounding the Dallas area.
"There have been multiple tornado sightings out there," said 11 News meteorologist Mario Gomez. "There have also been gusty winds and small hail reported."

So far, our area has been experiencing good weather, but all that changes when the Flood Watch goes into effect at midnight.
"It begins around the Wharton, Fort Bend, Harris and the Liberty County area. Anything north and west of that line you could see some flash flooding," said Gomez.
Most of the rain Tuesday is going to be light.
"When the front does move into our area there is a possibility of gusty winds, hail and possible flooding," said Gomez.
A Flash Flood Watch means rapidly rising water or flooding is possible within the watch area.
If you are in the watch area check preparedness requirements, stay informed and be ready for quick action.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of floods and flash floods.

Cool link. You can see risk issued back to 2004. I checked out the day Katrina made landfall. It had some high percentage for thunderstorms, as high as 70% for thunderstorms. 40% covers a large area.

I just had fun running down the plastic lawn chairs... I also had to take down the wind chimes, while the dogs around were all barking. it sounded like a bad horror movie. The neighbors little lawn tent thing was jumping up and down, making interesting crashing sounds. I doubt that thing will make it through the night. The low clouds are screaming across the sky. I can see the sky here because the Exxon plant puts out a lot of light.
