This is very very sad. The one photo in the thread looks to EF5 damage. Definitely resembles Barneveld, WI 1984. I can't believe the potential is their for a repeat event.

I knew this was going to be all over the news like this. I have not seen that much destruction in many years of tracking tornadoes. This most likely was our first F5 tornado in 8 years...however the Wikipedia article is saying a EF4 tornado and the source was from a french Canadian website. I don't know what that's about but I think this was a the first EF5 tornado. I don't even know if the NWS has released any reports yet on this.

My heart is breaking for the people of Greensburg.

I would not be surprised if it was classified as the first EF5 tornado. The damage is just unbelievable.

It is a preliminary rating from what I understand. It may very well be EF5 when all is said and done.

From what I could see from the areial footage, even the grass was torn out of the ground, which is indicitive of a Ef4+ tornado

I would not be surprised if it ended up EF5, for the simple fact that CNN briefly had a picture up of nothing but a concrete foundation where a house used to be. If that was a well constructed house, that'd be classic F5 damage. Time and the damage survey will tell.

It remains to be seen whether any of the established "Damage Indicators" will be enough to earn this an EF5 rating. Judging from the footage on The Weather Channel and CNN, it seems as if at least in some areas of Greensburg the walls of the houses and businesses were left intact, and the town is still littered with debris. I was under the impression that a signature of an (E)F5 tornado involved "sweeping the debris clean," i.e. no debris piles remaining, just structural foundations. In scenes from Bridge Creek and Moore, all the structures are completely gone and debris has been blown to the perimeter of the tornado path.

From what I have seen on Fox news today and some of the other pics on the inet right now, it appears to me that this will be an high EF4. As devastated as Greensburg is, and it is beyond my comprehension even though I have seen the photos, there were too many walls still standing and still too much debris right in the area for it to be classified EF5. However if there are roads scoured out similar to the grass referred to earlier it could well recieve that rating. We, of course, await the official survey and their assessment.

The wind velocity radar sure make it look like the vortex of circulation would hit Greensburg again....
