Does anyone know when was the last time a hurricane impacted the Lesser Antilles but didn't make landfall?

Because even though the eyewall of Dean is making landfall in St. Lucia according to the latest images, the center remains over water.

I agree im lookin at the images comin in from the 06 GFS run rite now and its already north of Jamacia when the old track had it goin south hmmmm.... lets see

yep, new GFS is a little bit right. LAst one had it South of Jamaica and now it goes over or just North of Jamaica

Sustained at 20 and gusting to 89? That not very impressive at all considering thats where the strongest part of this system is. I'm glad for the islands that this thing didn't bomb like everyone was thinking before it hit them.

Sounds like it did bomb, meaning it didn't perform to expectations. I agree it's good it bombed.

Report from St Lucia on Stormcarib.com:

I'm located in Cap Estate which is in the very North of the Island and at around 3 am the winds started blowing strongly from I would guess the West. It's now 4.45 am and the wind has been backing around to the East and blowing a real gale. I'm partly sheltered so its very difficult to tell how strong the winds are. I have a tree down in my yard and the power has been off for a couple of hours, I'm on my standbye generator and hopefully my phone line will stay up.


It appears that the eye of Dean will pass very close to the north end of the island and this is something we were not expecting and so the conditions are I feel much worse. There must be many people that have been caught unawares as to the severity of the storm, hopefully they will get through this without much material damage but I think not.

I was here for Allen and this is very similar in experience so far.


Well I have to take a walk around as sitting still in my nervous state is doing me no good.

Hopefully I will be able to report back in a couple of hours.

i think this sustained value is kind of suspect for one reason or another... maybe it has to do with the localized location of the observation (terrain etc.)

The NW part of eyewall just moving over them now. They should be NE Quad soon and that should be stronger.
