Lets wait intill it does something that makes it deservable of retirement. It has not done anything besides become a cat5. If it where to float of this planet tomarrow it would not be retired.

Indeed, this thread is premature. Perhaps close it for now and reopen it when it actually does something that might warrant retirement (because it may well affect land but only sparsely-populated areas, and that isn't exactly worthy of retirement).

Remember that Félix is an Spanish male name, and therefore, has to be replaced by another Spanish male name with the letter "F".

Edith, Emily. But I think Félix will be retired because of the areas it will affect.

Ferdi is the name of one of my cats. That's a good name. He behaves like a hurricane sometimes, chasing his own tail.

Felix is not necessarily a Hispanic name. I don't think former Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter or mathematician Felix Klein were Hispanic.

Is there a specific criteria for retiring a name? Who makes the decision?

Ethel and Cleo were not retired after they became Cat 5. (Cleo was retired for a different storm later)

Ethel weakened dramatically before landfall (putting the Cat 5 in doubt), and Cleo was a fish-spinner.

I think that a name is retired when there is a certain loss of life. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

No. Hurricane Gordon in 1994 killed thousands and didn't get retired. A storm is only retired if a country requests it.

If they need a Spanish name, either Francisco or Felipe.

If it's an English name, Fritz. Or maybe X-Files fans could lobby for Fox.

Hurricane Gordon killed 1122 on Haiti. There were more deaths, although all in the single digits by country. History has it that the number of deaths on Haiti was due to the lack of a warning system.

Interesting that we had significant warning before Katrina and still had 1836 fatalities.

Yes request can be made. But final decision is made by the WMO (which also determines names).

lol, I like Fido too (remember, they did name a storm Bob).
