Remember that Félix is an Spanish male name, and therefore, has to be replaced by another Spanish male name with the letter "F".

Ferdi is the name of one of my cats. That's a good name. He behaves like a hurricane sometimes, chasing his own tail.
Felix is not necessarily a Hispanic name. I don't think former Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter or mathematician Felix Klein were Hispanic.

Re: Replacing Felix
Is there a specific criteria for retiring a name? Who makes the decision?

Ethel and Cleo were not retired after they became Cat 5. (Cleo was retired for a different storm later)
Ethel weakened dramatically before landfall (putting the Cat 5 in doubt), and Cleo was a fish-spinner.

No. Hurricane Gordon in 1994 killed thousands and didn't get retired. A storm is only retired if a country requests it.

If they need a Spanish name, either Francisco or Felipe.
If it's an English name, Fritz. Or maybe X-Files fans could lobby for Fox.

Hurricane Gordon killed 1122 on Haiti. There were more deaths, although all in the single digits by country. History has it that the number of deaths on Haiti was due to the lack of a warning system.
Interesting that we had significant warning before Katrina and still had 1836 fatalities.
