RAIN spreading west on long range radar
http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/radar.ph ... 1&loop=yes
lawns in north carolina must be salivating and praying.
lets see if it can make it to greenville, or as some have said if the heavy rain moves to the NE portion of the storm

Well it's diurnal min and now it's looking pretty good.
It appears there is only one circulation now and it's under the convection, which is rapidly expanding.
Of course 30 minutes from now it might look terrible.

Was really board, so found this little rain dance instructional video.

WOW, that is a very nice animation showing the LLC shoot under the convection. It appears that it is over or near the gulf stream. I wonder how much it might strengthen tonight...

No snakes here but we've been in a horrible drought all summer also, top level of the scale from the Drought Monitor folks.

The relocation of the LLC probably justifies higher chances for a landfall on the easternmost Outer Banks, especially if the trend commences through the next few hours. Additionally, I would not be surprised to see some intensification as H7 (700 mbar) SE flow relaxes. The latest CIMSS 500-850 mbar steering (here) shows a "wedge" of ridging between the upper low (south of Gabrielle) and trough (NW of the TC). Some significant shear still exists, but the good inflow source and expanding convection probably indicates a sustenance of organization. This loop indicates a NNW movement, too.

Finally over the warm gulf stream with reduced shear. NHC said the shear would only stay low till tommorrow morning. Still could drop down to 980 mb or so before making the transition to non tropical.

So we got what appears to be a Tropical Cyclone getting its act together next to the Gulf Stream, and no Recon flights until 2 am? What the heck? I fear, if this deepening of the convection next to the center continues (and during D Min none the less!), that there could possibly be a nasty surprise when Recon gets there.

This one seemed like Erin, where the LLC and the convection could never get it together. Maybe that has changed.

Well, here is what appears to be one of the final, if not the final, visible image until morning:

I hope all is good with the one flight, hoping just communication problems.
