No surprise here with the upgrade. Now officially the 2007 season finishes with 14/6/2.

On friday I will repost at the forum the 2007 storm2k forecast poll for all to see which members came Very close to 14/6/2.I can say that there are two winners. :)

Not surprised by this one bit, when they said it was likely a Hurricane for a short time it was basically saying "This will be upgraded postseason"

As expected. I think it was a bit stronger though (about 70 kt) as it degraded quite a bit when the 62 kt reading was taken.

And she didn't harm anyone either, except some poor fish, in doing such...is this the first time a fish storm was upgraded post-season?

The only thing harmed was.... Karen. She died young.

Cape Verde Fishes, the best type of hurricane.

One question somewhat off-topic: has there ever been a post-season classification downgrade (i.e. an operationally-classified hurricane that really was only a tropical storm)? I haven't heard of any, but I personally would have done that to Ernesto last year (I don't think it was a hurricane in the Caribbean).

I'm pretty sure there have been a couple storms downgraded to depressions, but I'm not sure of any in the past 30 years.

A tropical storm has never been downgraded to a tropical depression

Mike in 1950 and Kendra in 1966 were found to be non-tropical in post-analysis. They are still the only two officially named non-tropical cyclones in Atlantic history. (Up for debate, I guess, but officially, only two.)

Can't think of a hurricane to tropical storm downgrade though. Allison in 1995 was downgraded from hurricane to tropical storm at landfall, but at peak was still a hurricane.

It must have been in the EPac in the 60's or 70's because I'm certain there was one.

Derek, they're talking about a whole storm being downgraded, as in, it never became a TS.

No surprises from me that Karen was upgraded. When I track storms each year, I use a different color for each intensity like many, and my color for hurricane intensity is red. When I saw that discussion that indicated that Karen had likely been a hurricane, I went ahead and drew a red line for a small part of Karen's path. I knew she had to have been a hurricane (and maybe I was a little arrogant but I was right as well).

I'm guessing her rhyming sister will be next. (Erin)

EDIT: Had the wrong word in there! Had "retired" instead of "upgraded." Ooops.

Who is making the retirement case? Some fish colony?

Why do people think hurricanes harm fish? I think nature can adequately handle tropical cyclones.

OT: I agree with the TPC's upgrade of Karen.

I definitely agree as well. I would have gone 70 kt at peak intensity since it looked much better earlier as opposed to when the 62 kt was measured.
